There are a lot of things you can do on an empty stomach. You’ve probably heard of drinking water the moment you wake up to cleanse your body and even help you lose weight.
There are also some health effects, such as lemon water elixirs, which are said to be best consumed before you have had anything for breakfast.
Although these things are recommended on an empty stomach, there are certain things that you should avoid in the same circumstance. Here they are:
Food and Drink
1. Tea or Coffee
These two drinks when drank first in the morning can actually do more harm than good. Coffee is acidic and can, therefore, increase the acidity of the stomach, causing digestion and heartburn. Meanwhile, tea can suppress the production of gastric juices, which means it reduces the acid and bile in the stomach.
2. Alcohol
Never drink alcohol on an empty stomach as this will cause the alcohol to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. This will cause the widening of blood vessels, causing a temporary low pulse as well as blood pressure. When the blood alcohol concentration is high, it increases the loss of control.
3. Soda
This beverage contains large amounts of carbonated acids that, when mixed with stomach acids, can cause nausea, discomfort, and other health problems.
4. Tomatoes
Although considered healthy, avoid eating tomatoes when you are hungry. It has acids that can react with gastric acids that can produce insoluble gels, which can stomach stones or calculus.

5. Spicy Food
Avoid spicy foods if you haven’t eaten yet, as it can react with the natural acids in your stomach. This can lead to cramps and acidic reactions on the mucous membrane of your stomach.
Activities
1. Exercising
If you think you will lose more weight by exercising without eating anything, you are wrong. When you exercise, the body uses glycogen that comes from the foods you eat. If you do not have enough glycogen, your body will end up burning muscle, leading to more fat storage.
2. Traveling
This can cause you to have motion sickness. Also, avoid eating foods that cause gases, such as broccoli, cauliflower, sodas, and the like.
3. Grocery Shopping
Always shop full unless you want to spend more money on foods that contain high fat and calories.
If you haven’t eaten anything yet, be sure the next thing you are going to do is not included in the list above.
